Richards Asked JV About Button (JV-World)
Having cleared the way with the senior directors of parent company British American Tobacco and Honda, David Richards made sure he had the blessing of senior driver, Jacques.
"If you want to know who the good drivers are, you ask a driver," Richards told The Times, "Getting Jenson was my initiative but Jacques had no doubts about who he could work with. Jacques says Jenson is the best prospect and he'll bring a huge lift to our team."
According to the newspaper, Jacques was asked to draw up a list of drivers he would like to drive alongside. Second was Jenson. First was Michael Schumacher, 'because he [Jacques] would like to beat him on equal terms, and then Button'.
With BAR's signing of Jenson Button on a four-year contract and with Jacques already possessing a contract for 2003, it was expected that Olivier Panis would be the driver leaving the team.
However, Richards also revealed that an unusual three-driver situation could come into effect at BAR next season.
"There is also a rather unique set of circumstances which might see everyone accommodated and happy," Richards added. "It's not necessarily a test driver, but it will unfold over the next few weeks. I'm not going into any more detail on that at the moment."
Então, ao que parece, essa história de três pilotos procede...
