Da NME:
STARSAILOR GET THEIR PHIL!
STARSAILOR have recorded two tracks with legendary producer PHIL SPECTOR, becoming the first act to work with him in almost 20 years.
The quartet spent a week with the reclusive great in a west London studio during mid-July. The sessions resulted in two brand new tracks, one called 'Silence Is Easy' and the other untitled. So intent were management on both sides in keeping the location a secret that Starsailor were not told for sure which studio would be used until the recording began.
Starsailor frontman Walsh told NME.COM he was delighted with the results.
"It was amazing being there with him," he said. "The songs sound great. It could not have gone better - it was just incredible." He added that while discussions had been held with Spector about him producing the entire new album -the follow-up to debut 'Love Is Here' - nothing had been settled or agreed yet. Walsh said the songs were a leap forward from those on 'Love Is Here'.
Starsailor first met Spector in January during their US tour. He went along to their show at the Los Angeles Palace and declared himself a fan of the band. He invited them to his castle in the LA hills, where they spent two hours in talks about him working on new Starsailor recordings.
Aside from occasional work with Yoko Ono and Eric Clapton, Spector last produced an album in 1980 when he helmed The Ramones' 'End Of The Century'.
Spector invented the Wall Of Sound production that dominated early 1960s pop. He influenced a generation of bands including The Beatles and the Beach Boys.
His techniques for getting the best out of his artists include, as John Lennon alleged, pulling a gun.
Meanwhile, Starsailor will release a live DVD and video 'Love Is Here Live' on September 9. Documenting the band's history to date and includes a live show recorded at the London Forum on November 1 last year.
Starsailor play the V festival on August 17-18, before returning to the studio work on their new album in the autumn.
And frontman James Walsh and his girlfriend Lisa McNamee have given birth to their first child, a little girl. She was born early on Friday morning (August 9) in London. Mother and baby are healthy and well.
Tá vivo, André? :)
