Minha mais recente descoberta...
January (do Remote Control)
Sepiatones hand coloured…. songs not of despair but of transcending it…. love lost and found. While down at the crossroads a handy flashlight pierces the heart of darkness… the poetry of wild slide guitars cuts up the eerie drone of European folk. Fred Neil and Tim Buckley listen to Spacemen 3 and wonder... is this how it's going to be in a Poptones world?. The beauty of discord…..the shock of melody…..the sound of January.
London's January are led by one-time Sydney-based Simon McLean, formerly with Jupiter. Also in the line-up is Sarah Peacock , previously with Seefeel and now providing the shimmering guitar qualities. Comparisons have already been made to Ride, Mazzy Star and mercurial '60s westcoast guitar acts such as Quicksilver, The Byrds and early Neil Young.
January release their debut album "I Heard Myself In You" through Alan McGee's new label Poptones. Think Nick Drake, think Spiritualized, think Red House Painters, think Neil Young.
Gentle melodies, huge guitars. I Heard Myself In You is the debut album everyone hoped they'd make, justifying the huge amount of praise the band has already received.
"In a few months' time people will be talking about January" Melody Maker
"Intricate acoustic classicism" Time Out
"Sumptuous pastoral rock" Q
A tour with Lupine Howl saw January converting many new followers across the UK. Limited edition 7" 'Eyes All Mine' earned a lot of XFM and BBC London Live plays, as well as a few Radio1 airings. Live set from Camden Monarch broadcast on XFM.
Alan McGee listens to us in the bath" says Simon. "Which isn't bad".
