F1 Commission Announcement
Ferrari can rest easy. Ballast will not be introduced into the F1 World Championship next year. The changes announced by the F1 Commission today have few far-reaching effects, but will increase action on GP Fridays.
There are some significant changes, though:
* The points system will change in a bid to keep the championship open for as long as possible and to award points down to eighth place (rather than sixth).
The new system awards 10 points for a win, and will then go eight, six, five, four, three, two and one.
* Team orders that affect race results have now been banned.
* Two day qualifying will be introduced but the times from Friday will not be added to the driver's Saturday time. Friday running is purely to determine the order cars go out on Saturday.
* Drivers will go out in order, using their World Championship position to determine Friday running order. They'll have the track to themselves for one single flying lap on both days. The second run will be in reverse order of the fastest times from Friday (like slalom skiing).
* Teams that do little testing in the course of the year will be able to have extra track time on the Fridays of GPs between 9 and 11am. They will also be able to use their spare car.
* Each team will be able to have two sets of dry tyres to themselves, so McLaren and Williams will be able to get separate Michelin compounds to suit their chassis. However they are only allowed one kind of wet weather tyre from now on.
* There has been no agreement on running without tobacco advertising in Belgium and so the race at Spa in 2003 has been withdrawn from the calendar.
Eu coloquei em negrito as regras que acredito serem imediatamente mais efetivas... só Deus sabe o que a FIA vai fazer em caso de uma ordem de equipe, que espécie de punição seria dada, porque a partir de agora é infração de regulamento.
